Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their German conjugation skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. It’s useful to work with tense and more complex language as quickly as possible, as this gives students a more realistic experience of the language they are learning.
This set focuses on the conjugation of German verbs in the present tense, featuring a range of regular, irregular and mixed, reflexive, separable and modal verbs. The questions are aimed at advanced beginner German students, and are useful for students preparing for intermediate German class. The activity is ideal for independent study, learning alone, in pairs or in small groups. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior knowledge, and address a range of language that may be entirely new and unfamiliar to students. These questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language - this means that the activity is not solely about practising and consolidating learned language, but also actively engaging with, and learning new language. A range of grammatical concepts are addressed in the questions too, such as gender agreement, direct and indirect objects, personal pronouns and word order in German.
There are translation questions from both German into English and English into German. This introduces students to the concept of translation from a very early point in their German programme.
The set comprises the following non-editable files:
= 48 differentiated question cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminate if possible, as the cards are more learner-friendly, and will remain in excellent condition for years. It’s not necessary to cut out individual cards - simply laminate the pages, saving considerably on prep time
= answer key - providing students with additional opportunity to engage with language, helping them develop more independence in their learning - and a great teacher time-saver too
= answer recording sheet

Ideal for cross-curricular learning in German class: students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. At the same time, students are developing their German language skills: speaking, listening and reading in particular, as well as broadening their German vocabulary. Play both as a whole-group team quiz, and in pairs or small groups on a regular basis - students are particularly keen to see if they can beat their own points record, and are really motivated by their developing knowledge.
The set contains all European countries and capital cities, including some island communities such as the Faroe Islands and Guernsey. Each question has 4 answers to choose from. The correct answer is given in capital letters. The quiz cards are numbered, but questions can be asked in random order too: simply place all the cards in a bowl, box or tin, and work your way through.
There are two quiz challenges:
= Challenge 1 gives the country as a prompt, with four possible capital cities to choose from.
= Challenge 2 gives the capital city as a prompt, with four possible countries to choose from. This challenge uses the definite article in the responses to help consolidate students’ knowledge of the gender of individual countries and the use of the dative following the preposition von.
The card numbers for Challenge 1 are in the top right-hand corner; Challenge 2 in the top left-hand corner so that the cards can be organised and sorted easily. Laminate the cards if possible: they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years.
Before playing, it’s useful to show students a map of Europe, so that they can visualize the location of each country and capital city, not only as an individual location with Europe, but also as a location in relation to other European countries and capital cities. This definitely helps students understand and memorise the countries and capital cities.

The set features a range of high-frequency French Christmas vocabulary, useful either as an introduction to, or consolidation of, the target language. Students can also develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their general French language skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions are differentiated, and are aimed at advanced beginner French students. They address not only French numbers 0-31, French mathematical language and French Christmas vocabulary, but also a broad range of grammar points, such as definite and indefinite articles, question formats and gender agreement in French.
All the questions are in French, with the Christmas images providing students with visual learning support. The Christmas vocabulary and images help to develop students’ awareness of a range of Christmas traditions and figures in French-speaking countries, such as galette des Rois and Père Fouettard, which is translated as Father Fouettard, rather than ‘Whipping Father’, and are also really useful for stimulating discussion about French Christmas practices and customs. This is a successful alternative to more standard presentations and worksheets. Students also enjoy talking about other Christmas traditions they know or follow.

Word wall classroom decor / display are an effective teaching and learning resource in German class. Students are able to see and engage with written key vocabulary in the everyday learning environment. This set features German analogue clock times o’clock and half past the hour. It provides instant question and answer prompts such as Wie viel Uhr ist es? or Wie spät ist es? and aligns itself well with conversational scenarios like daily routine for example. To fully maximise the learning potential of word walls and other classroom decor / display, it’s useful to compare and contrast language with students’ first / home language. This is particularly helpful with half past the hour in German, which students often find quite challenging, and really helps students develop their general language skills and awareness.
There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format, including two header cards Wie viel Uhr ist es? and ***Wie spät ist es?***. There are two backgrounds to choose from - either German flag, which looks great as display / decor, though increases prep costs quite significantly, and plain. Laminate the cards if possible. They will display really well, and also remain excellent condition for years. It’s a good idea to vary word wall and other classroom decor / displays on a regular basis, as this prevents them becoming ‘invisible’ to students.

Students can embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of the focus target language, as well as develop their German language skills in general, independently of the teacher. The questions are differentiated, ranging in complexity and challenge. They have a shared language focus: vegetables in German, within the context of two German cases - nominative and accusative - and German articles, masculine, feminine, definite, indefinite, singular and plural, with some reference to adjectival endings. There is reference to a range of grammatical structures such as um… zu + infinitive, all of which give students opportunity to recognise and identify linguistic patterns, and to develop their German skills more holistically, without explicit instruction. This enables them to understand and use language in practical and communicative contexts, which is a more successful language learning strategy, and more engaging and challenging for students, than straightforward single-unit vocabulary memorisation drills or exercises.
There are some simple translation questions, both German-English and English-German. This helps students understand that translation is not simply a ‘word for word’ exchange from the beginning of their German learning programme.
The set comprises the following non-editable files in a zipped format:
= 48 differentiated question cards
= answer key & answer recording sheet. The recording sheet works well for more formal assessment purposes. Students can use their class workbooks for working and noting their responses in class time.
= alphabetical German-English vegetables list. There are 30 vegetables featured in the questions, though students don’t learn all 30 vegetables at one particular time. It’s useful to include additional language to make the activity more challenging, and to provide students with a broader range of vocabulary to engage with. The list includes gender (masculine or feminine) as well as definite and indefinite article, singular and plural.

Students often find speaking quite challenging in French class. They find it really useful to engage with activities that require them to reproduce language they are already familiar with, be creative with that language in order to produce new language, and also enable them to engage with entirely new language. Each set features 100 conversation starters / speaking / writing prompts in question format, featuring a broad range of language and grammar points. The CEFR level across the two sets is roughly A2-B2, with some reference to C1. The sets feature a complete reference sheet, and a planning sheet. The activity works well as a spontaneous speaking activity, and students also benefit from a more focused approach, where they can research and plan more detailed and complex responses as their competence and skills develop. The questions works equally well as creative writing prompts.
The starters broadly address the following themes:
= Set 1: personal information : family & routines at home : hobbies & free time : likes & dislikes : local environment : food & drink; school & studies : sport & healthy living; countries & languages : weather & seasons

Bingo games are an ideal multi-skill activity for Spanish class, providing students with an opportunity to practise and consolidate language in a collaborative and communicative environment. Students generally find the competitive element really motivating, whether playing solo or in teams. The games work well in various learning contexts, for example learn and practice during the introductory phase, refresh and revise throughout the school year and activities for sub / cover lessons.

There are two sets in the mini-bundle, each with 60 grids: 40 with clock faces only, perfect for developing listening skills, and 20 mixed clock faces and time phrases. These grids work particularly well for both listening and reading skills. Students have to pay close attention to the individual grids, as some feature the same clock time both as a clock face and a clock phrase. There are four 4 x 6 grids per A4 (8.5 x 11) page. Students can play with any number of grids from either one or both sets in a single game, which is a straightforward way of increasing challenge. Grids can be distributed as whole pages, reducing prep time, or cut out individually. If you have erasable pens, laminating the pages of grids for repeated use reduces overall prep time and expense. The grids are designed for all squares to be crossed in order to win the game, and there may be more than one winner per game.

There is both a Spanish and English calling card for maximum differentiation. For a focus on listening skills, use the Spanish version; for more targeted practice of Spanish times, particularly half past the hour, use the English calling card alongside the Spanish, calling out in both languages. Students will hear a Spanish time phrase, and cross off the corresponding clock face. When you call out in English, students will hear for example***It is half past three*** but are looking for Son las tres y media in the grid.

Bingo games are an ideal multi-skill activity for French class, providing students with an opportunity to practise and consolidate language in a collaborative and communicative environment.

There is both a French and English calling card for maximum differentiation. For a focus on listening skills, use the French version; for more targeted practice of French times, particularly half past the hour, use the English calling card alongside the French, calling out in both languages. Students will hear a French time phrase, and cross off the corresponding clock face. When you call out in English, students will hear for example***It is half past three*** but are looking for Il est trois heures et demie in the grid.
